Recent scrutiny by safety officials has concluded that a static charge on a synthetic fabric will remain localized since nearly all synthetics are insulators. This means that the charge will stay and build up rather than travel a distance to reach a grounding wire sewn over the fabric.

Pharmaceutical, Food and Chemical industries have long been aware of the hazards of using non-conductive media for combustible powders such as starches, protein, sugar or cocoa. Thankfully this awareness has now spread to literally every operation that is potentially exposed to fires or explosions. With this widespread acceptance, a need has developed for separating and retaining submicron or oily particles, while retaining the static conductivity.

In response, Shaffer has developed a unique product employing Shaffer's Unipore membrane bonded to a premium polyester felt with a stainless steel matrix for conductivity.
